In the latest development, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed former Deputy CDF, now Presidential Advisor and Member of Parliament for the UPDF, Lt. Gen. Peter Elwelu, to new roles. According to a letter written by Museveni to the General, Elwelu will now be in charge of monitoring government activities in the Teso and Karamoja regions. These regions are known for facing cattle raids and issues like the diversion of iron sheets meant for the people in Karamoja.
This website has learned that these are the same roles assigned to Resident District Commissioners (RDCs). It is yet to be clear why the President has made this move after recently creating a unit to fight corruption within the Uganda Revenue Authority. The President has directed the State House Comptroller to facilitate Elwelu in carrying out this assignment.
