In a tragic turn of events, Baziro Songok, a dedicated police officer attached to the Nakiloro Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in Moroto district, met his untimely demise at the hands of a suspected Karimojong warrior. The incident, which occurred on Friday at approximately 8:15 pm, has sent shockwaves through the community.

Songok, accompanied by two teenagers, Tamuhid Chemonges (18 years old) and Wadudu Mwanga (15 years old), both residents of Nakiloro, was returning to the barracks from Nakiloro trading center when tragedy struck. The suspect, identified only as Apule, a resident of Nakiloro village, crossed paths with the trio. Armed and seemingly intent on violence, Apule reportedly ordered the three to accompany him into the bush before fatally shooting Songok.

Michael Longole, the spokesperson for the Mount Moroto Regional Police, provided further details, stating that despite the unprovoked attack, the two teenage boys managed to subdue the assailant and disarm him. However, in a startling twist, Apule was discovered dead the following day, Saturday, during a joint security operation in the area. Longole suggested that Apule may have succumbed to injuries sustained during the altercation with the teenagers.

“A joint force comprising members of the ASTU and UPDF, under the leadership of the officer in charge of Nakiloro, launched a search for PC Songok. Tragically, they found him with a gunshot wound to the chest,” Longole explained. “He was swiftly rushed to the UPDF health facility at the 3rd Division headquarters for urgent medical attention, but, regrettably, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.”
