In a bold statement, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, the manager of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), has criticized political pressure groups for imposing their candidates on Ugandans, asserting that such actions contradict the principles of democracy.

Namyalo emphasized that Uganda is a democratic state, not a monarchy, and thus citizens should have the freedom to choose their leaders without external coercion. She condemned the efforts of certain pressure groups to divert Ugandans’ attention from crucial issues such as poverty alleviation, labeling their politics as futile.

“At a time when Ugandans should be focused on lifting their families out of poverty, some selfish politicians are attempting to distract them by imposing their candidates. We must allow our people to work and make their own decisions,” stated Namyalo.

Asserting that Ugandans will choose their leaders when the time is right, Namyalo pointed out that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is already preparing to contest in the upcoming elections. She urged political actors to respect the democratic process and refrain from confusing the populace with premature political maneuvers.

Encouraging civic engagement, Namyalo called upon Ugandans to verify their details in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) register, following the recent update launched by President Museveni. She stressed the importance of confirming NRM membership to ensure the smooth reelection of President Museveni in 2026.

Addressing women ahead of International Women’s Day, Namyalo urged them to actively participate in poverty alleviation efforts. She emphasized that women are equally capable of contributing to family welfare and encouraged them to utilize government empowerment programs to start businesses and improve livelihoods.

Highlighting the ONC’s commitment to empowerment, Namyalo announced the dispatch of vehicles loaded with empowerment tools to Katakwi district, where this year’s Women’s Day celebrations will take place. She reaffirmed her office’s dedication to empowering Ugandans, particularly women, to combat poverty effectively.

Namyalo’s statements underscore the importance of democratic principles, civic participation, and gender equality in Uganda’s socio-economic development agenda. Her call for focus on development initiatives resonates amidst political turbulence, emphasizing the need for concerted efforts to uplift communities and foster inclusive growth.
