Gunmen Attack Kaura Namoda Town: Four Killed, Over 40 Kidnapped Including Senior Police Officers

In a brazen act of violence, gunmen launched a deadly assault on the town of Kaura Namoda in Zamfara State, northwest Nigeria, leaving a trail of devastation in their wake. The attack, which occurred on Tuesday, resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including two policemen, and the abduction of at least 40 others.

The police spokesperson for the state, Yazid Abu Bakr, confirmed the tragic incident, underscoring the severity of the situation. He revealed that reinforcements had swiftly been dispatched to the Kasuwar Daji area of the town, where the violent confrontation unfolded.

Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing events that unfolded during the attack. According to Hussaini Mohammed, a local resident, the assailants initiated their assault by targeting the town’s police station. “They kidnapped more than 40 women and children and some elderly men,” Mohammed lamented, describing the chaos and terror that gripped the community.

Hamisu Kasuwa Daji, head of the town’s transport union, shared his personal anguish as he revealed the toll the attack had taken on his own family. “My house is next to the police station. The bandits started by attacking the police station and continued for several minutes, killing two policemen and two other civilians… Then they came to my house… They took my son and two of my grandchildren,” Kasuwa Daji recounted, his voice laden with grief and disbelief.

The tragic incident has sent shockwaves throughout the region, underscoring the persistent threat posed by armed groups in Zamfara State. The brazenness of the attack and the scale of the casualties serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing security challenges facing communities in northwest Nigeria.
