Kibuku Double Murder Stuns Community: Police Intensify Hunt for Killers in Grisly Slaying
In a harrowing incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, a couple in Kibuku District, eastern Uganda, has been brutally murdered in their home. The victims, identified as Namwoyo Twaha (38) and Katooko Nasim (27), residents of Bulalaka village in Tirinyi Sub County, were found dead on the morning of February 2, 2024.
The couple is believed to have been hacked to death on the night of Thursday, with their bodies discovered in a gruesome state, bearing multiple deep cuts. The crime scene, located in Bulalaka village, Tirinyi sub-county, was attended by the police after the case was reported by Namba Charles, a District Councillor in Tirinyi sub-county.
Bukedi North Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Semewo Samuel, provided details on the tragic incident, stating, “Both bodies had multiple deep cuts all over, suspected to have been killed by hacking by unknown person(s).” Police investigators recovered exhibits at the scene, including an axe and two knives, possibly used in the heinous act.
The police canine unit was deployed at the crime scene, and according to SP Semewo, it traced a path leading from the victims’ compound to Tirinyi Mbale highway, where the unit indicated a significant point of interest by sitting down.
The bodies were taken to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examinations by a police surgeon. The case has been registered at Tirinyi Police Station under CRB 010/2024, and investigations are underway. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the brutal murders.
This incident adds to the growing concern over rising murder cases in the region. In January this year, Kibuku witnessed another gruesome murder when Mwigo Sepiryan, a bodaboda rider in his mid-40s at Dodoi road stage Kadama Town, was similarly killed in cold blood, with his body left in a pool of blood, showing multiple cuts on his head, in a swamp at Lyada Cell Kadama Town Council.
Local residents are living in fear, urging law enforcement to expedite investigations and bring the perpetrators to justice, while community leaders are calling for increased security measures to ensure the safety of the population in the wake of these disturbing incidents.
