Horrifying Aggravated Defilement, Murder Of 13-Year-Old Sparks Intense Police Manhunt in Kigezi Region

In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the Kigezi region and Kanungu district, the territorial police are actively searching for Turyasingura Joshua, the alleged perpetrator behind the Aggravated Defilement and Murder of Kakuru Constance, a 13-year-old primary pupil at Kashesha Primary School and resident of Rukarara village, Kihembo sub-county.

The chilling events unfolded on the evening of January 4, 2024, around 8 pm. Kakuru Constance, accompanied by her twin sister, Kato Vastina, and two boys, James and Ntuuri, ventured out to pick their pig within Rukarara village. Along the way, they encountered Turyasingura Joshua at Ntararwe hill. The suspect called Kakuru Constance, allegedly sending her to purchase local waragi. Despite pleas from her twin sister to return home due to the late hour, Kakuru remained with the suspect.

Concern arose when Kakuru did not return home that night. The following day, a search ensued, leading to the discovery of Kakuru’s lifeless body in a banana plantation around 9 am. The horrifying scene revealed signs of sexual assault, torture, and strangulation. Kakuru’s chest and thigh areas were exposed, and her body bore the marks of a brutal crime. Her knickers were found removed and stained with blood. A post-mortem conducted at Kihihi hospital mortuary confirmed the heinous nature of the crime.

The police strongly condemned the cruel and inhuman behavior against young girls, emphasizing the right to life, protection, and well-being that every child deserves. SCP Enanga Fred, the Police Spokesperson, expressed deep concern over such gruesome murders perpetrated by adults, whom young victims trust and respect.

A relentless hunt for the suspect, Turyasingura Joshua, is underway, with a plea to the public to provide any information that could lead to his swift arrest.
