Govt Probe Umeme Over Unapproved Yaka Allowances

Government through the Power Administrative Position, the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) has begun exploring power wholesaler Umeme restricted on charges that a portion of its customers on prepaid distributing power framework, Yaka got less units than anticipated in March and April this year.
According to ERA, the examination follows protests from a few power purchasers who supposedly got less energy units contrasted with what is normal dependent on the endorsed tax structure.
“We have gotten objections from power buyers about sudden derivations from paid ahead of time Yaka distributed sums in March and April 2021 by Umeme restricted. We direct Umeme to stop unapproved Yaka derivations,” the letter, a duplicate of which has been seen by this distribution, peruses.
Umeme’s uncommunicated activity has left shoppers with less energy units contrasted with what is normal dependent on the endorsed levy structure, the assertion endorsed by Time chief correspondences, Mr Julius Wandera, adds.
As indicated by ERA, by changing month to month life saver units and forcing fixed recoverable sums on purchasers, Umeme is executing a levy structure unique in relation to that affirmed by the controller and is infringing upon the Power Act 1999.
“We like the tolerance of influenced power clients as we examine the matter,” Mr Wandera added.
One of the influenced purchasers who addressed journalist this morning, said he paid Shs10,000 in December 2020 and got 16.8 units. A similar occurred in January, February and Walk, however in April, he got just four units subsequent to paying a similar measure of cash.
Nonetheless, in a prior talk with this distribution, Umeme representative, Mr Peter Kaujju said they had, in blunder, given more Yaka units to their prepaid clients in December 2020, than they paid for.
“In December, while keeping up our framework, a few clients got a bigger number of units than they paid for. We are remedying the mistake,” Mr Kaujju said a week ago.
Umeme has not shared the quantity of individuals influenced.
In spite of the clarification and estimations by Umeme on their web-based media stages, large numbers of their clients are as yet demanding that the figures aren’t adding up.
