Ven. Canon Moses Banja Elected as the 6th Bishop of Namirembe Diocese

The House of Bishops of the Church of Uganda, sitting at St Stephen’s Cathedral Naluwerere in East Busoga Diocese, has elected Ven. Canon Moses Banja as the 6th Bishop of Namirembe Diocese. Ven. Canon Banja will be consecrated and enthroned on December 10, 2023, at St Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe.

Ven. Canon Moses Banja, born on October 20, 1964, in Nakabugo Bbira, Busiro, has dedicated his life to religious service. On December 3, 1989, he accepted Jesus Christ as his savior, and he was ordained in 1996 and priested in 1998. He is married to Rev. Canon Prof. Olivia Nassaka Banja, and they have three children.

With a Bachelor’s Degree in Divinity from Makerere University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from the same institution, Ven. Canon Moses Banja brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his new role as the Bishop of Namirembe Diocese. Currently serving as the Archdeacon of Luzira Archdeaconry in Namirembe Diocese, he has demonstrated his commitment to the church and its community.

The election of Ven. Canon Moses Banja is a significant moment for the Church of Uganda and the faithful in Namirembe Diocese. As the 6th Bishop, he will assume leadership and responsibility for guiding the diocese, ensuring the spiritual well-being of its members, and promoting the teachings and values of the church.

The consecration and enthronement ceremony on December 10, 2023, will be a momentous occasion filled with joy and celebration as the new Bishop takes up his position. It will be held at St Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe, a place of significance and worship that holds great importance to the faithful.

The Church of Uganda, under the guidance of Ven.
