President Yoweri Museveni has issued a directive to the Parliament of Uganda, instructing them to allocate a monthly stipend of Shs60 million to all recognized cultural institutions. The announcement came to light during the wedding reception of His Majesty Kyabazinga William Gabula Nadiope IV and Her Royal Highness Jovia Mutesi at Igenge Palace in Jinja City, as revealed by Deputy Speaker Mr. Thomas Tayebwa.

Mr. Tayebwa conveyed the President’s directive, emphasizing the need for proper facilitation of the Kingdoms. “The president made a directive that the Kingdom must be well facilitated, let’s go and implement the President’s directive of giving each Kingdom Shs60. I promise on behalf of all members of Parliament that the directive will be implemented because after here we are going to work it out,’’ he affirmed.

Addressing the newlyweds, Mr. Tayebwa encouraged Kyabazinga to capitalize on the momentum Busoga has generated, calling for transformative initiatives within the Kingdom. He posed a question to the royal couple, “If many people, including the President, have contributed to this royal wedding overwhelmingly, why don’t we do more in terms of support and change the economy of Busoga?”

As part of the wedding preparations, Prime Minister Joseph Muvawala outlined plans for the Kingdom to embark on the construction of a commercial plaza, positioning it as a future revenue source. The royal couple received generous contributions, including 20 cows from President Museveni, 10 cows from his son Mr. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and five cows from Deputy Speaker Tayebwa.

The move by President Museveni underscores the recognition of the cultural institutions’ role, with Buganda, Busoga, Tooro, Bunyoro, Rwenzururu, Bamasaba, and Acholi among the Kingdoms set to benefit from the monthly financial support.
