Kampala, Uganda — February 12, 2026The Supreme Court of Uganda has ordered a fresh hearing of Joseph Kazinda’s petition challenging the outcome of the 2026 parliamentary elections in his constituency.

The directive comes after the court noted procedural concerns in the initial handling of the case, which could have affected the fairness of the original judgment.

Details of the specific irregularities were not disclosed.Kazinda, who has long voiced concerns over electoral conduct, had previously lost his petition at the High Court, which dismissed his claims of irregularities and mismanagement by the Electoral Commission.

He promptly appealed to the Supreme Court.Political observers say the Supreme Court’s decision highlights the judiciary’s cautious approach in election-related disputes, especially those that draw national attention.

“This rehearing provides an opportunity to address concerns comprehensively and reinforce public confidence in the judicial process,” said lawyer and constitutional expert Dr. Michael Byamukama.

Kazinda welcomed the court’s decision, pledging full cooperation and calling on the Electoral Commission to make all relevant records available.

The Commission has yet to respond formally but is reportedly preparing to defend the integrity of the election results.A new hearing date will be announced in the coming weeks.
