eMbarara City, Uganda — Bright Muhumuza, the National Unity Platform (NUP) coordinator for the Ankole sub-region, has been granted bail by the Grade One Magistrate’s Court in Mbarara, weeks after he was reportedly missing under unclear circumstances.

Muhumuza appeared before court amid tight security, where the presiding magistrate approved his release on bail after reviewing his application and sureties.

Details of the bail terms were not immediately disclosed by court officials.

His court appearance comes after weeks of concern from family members, political colleagues, and human rights activists who had raised alarm over his whereabouts following his disappearance.

NUP leaders had earlier demanded explanations from security agencies regarding his alleged detention and called for his immediate release.

Supporters and party members gathered outside the court premises welcomed the decision, describing it as a step toward justice and due process.

However, the charges against Muhumuza remain before court, and he is expected to return on a later date for further mention of his case.

Neither police nor security authorities had issued a comprehensive public statement by press time regarding the circumstances surrounding his reported disappearance.

NUP officials say they will continue to monitor the case closely as legal proceedings continue.
