Ugandan media personality Sheila Gashumba has announced her intention to adopt a street child she has been supporting, after losing contact with the boy she had been assisting for several months.

In a social media post shared on Saturday, Gashumba posted a photograph of the child and appealed to the public for help in locating him.

She urged anyone who sees the boy to contact her personal assistant and offered a cash reward of 1 million Uganda shillings for information leading to him being brought to her “safe and sound.”

Gashumba said she intends to formally adopt the child and provide for his education through to university level. “My heart hasn’t settled for two days,” she wrote, emphasizing the urgency she feels about the child’s welfare.

She has previously expressed hesitation about motherhood, citing career and lifestyle commitments, but said her decision to adopt reflects a personal commitment to the welfare of this particular child.

Gashumba is a prominent Ugandan media personality, TV host, DJ, and digital influencer with a large following across Uganda and East Africa. Her announcement has drawn attention on social media and sparked discussions about supporting vulnerable children.

Street children in Uganda face numerous challenges, including limited access to education, healthcare, and safe living conditions.

While official data on the number of children living and working on the streets remains incomplete, their plight continues to be a subject of concern for child welfare organizations and authorities.

The public has been urged to assist Gashumba in locating the child and ensuring his safety, while also highlighting the broader societal responsibility toward protecting vulnerable children in urban areas.
