Kampala,Uganda: Friends of Uganda (FoU), a newly formed citizen-driven movement, is set to address the country on Wednesday in a press conference expected to focus on peace and unity in the aftermath of the coming elections.

The meeting, which will take place at Makerere University Auditorium, is seen as part of the organization’s wider effort to shape national conversations around coexistence, tolerance, and the future stability of Uganda.

According to sources close to the organizers, the press conference will highlight the need for Ugandans to look beyond political allegiances and prepare for a peaceful transition, regardless of electoral outcomes.

The movement, which describes itself as transformative and inclusive, believes that sustaining peace after elections should be a shared responsibility among all citizens. “Our country’s future cannot be left to chance. It depends on the actions and attitudes of ordinary Ugandans before and after the polls,” said one of the coordinators who preferred anonymity ahead of the official launch.

The Friends of Uganda initiative, operating under the theme Our Nation, Our Shared Responsibility, aims to rally citizens toward a collective commitment to national preservation.

Its founders argue that while politics often dominates public discourse, the real task lies in nurturing a culture of peace and mutual respect among communities. The group’s guiding message emphasizes dialogue over division and understanding over confrontation, underscoring the need for a sober and united nation once the election dust settles.

Observers note that FoU’s emergence comes at a time when Uganda’s political atmosphere is marked by heightened anticipation, with tensions typically expected around the election season.

The organization hopes to counter these divisions through grassroots engagement, youth involvement, and civic education, urging Ugandans to focus on shared values rather than party differences. “We are not here to curse the darkness but to light a candle that guides us to a safer and sane future,” another member explained, quoting the movement’s core message.

In its vision statement, the group describes a peaceful and prosperous Uganda where citizens take an active role in shaping their destiny, managing national resources, and protecting the social fabric that binds the nation together.

The upcoming press conference will serve as both a prelude to the organization’s official launch and a call to action for citizens to take responsibility for maintaining stability after the elections.

As the country prepares for another defining political season, Friends of Uganda seeks to stand apart as a voice of calm, encouraging dialogue and compassion in moments of uncertainty.

Whether the movement can rally the nation around its message remains to be seen, but its entry into the public arena adds a hopeful note to Uganda’s ongoing conversation about peace, unity, and national responsibility.
