As Uganda nears the 2026 general elections scheduled for January 15, the parliamentary race in Nakawa East has taken an interesting turn with the nomination of Keeno Charles Ronnie, a seasoned media consultant and journalist whose campaign promises to blend community representation with professional integrity.

Speaking to The New Light Paper shortly after his nomination, Keeno expressed deep gratitude to his supporters and the Electoral Commission for confirming his candidacy, revealing that his election symbol, a radio, carries a message far beyond its image.

According to Keeno, the radio symbolizes communication, dialogue, and the power of the media in shaping society. “I chose the radio because it represents who I am and what I stand for. I have spent my life in the media, amplifying voices that would otherwise go unheard, and I intend to do the same for the people of Nakawa East,” he explained.

He outlined what he called his “two Ps” agenda, centered on Priority and Presence. According to Keno, priority means ensuring that the concerns and aspirations of the residents of Nakawa East are placed at the forefront of parliamentary discussions. “A member of Parliament is a messenger. My role is to take the message of my people and make sure it is heard, understood, and acted upon,” he said, emphasizing his desire to bridge the gap between leaders and the electorate.

The second pillar of his campaign, Presence, seeks to address what he described as a long-standing disconnect between elected representatives and their constituents.

Keeno promised to establish an office for the area Member of Parliament to serve as a direct point of contact for the people. “For years, our people have yearned for a leader who remains accessible and present. I am committing to that. I will open an office here in Nakawa East where citizens can walk in, share their concerns, and find solutions together,” he pledged.

Keeno’s approach, rooted in service and accessibility, has already drawn attention among residents who view his media background as a strength rather than a detour from traditional politics.

Several supporters at the nomination center said they believe his communication skills and experience in public affairs could bring a new tone to political engagement.

In his words, Keeno maintains that his focus is on unity and meaningful representation. “This is not just about politics; it’s about restoring faith in leadership,” he said. “I am guided by God, driven by purpose, and committed to serving Nakawa East with honesty and diligence,”said.
