Four People Die In Buikwe Road Accident

On Friday, January 14, 2022, police at Najjembe Trading Centre, along the Jinja-Kampala Highway in Buikwe district, began investigating a deadly accident that took the lives of four persons.

A Tata lorry with the registration number UAX 660C collided with a commuter taxi.

A lorry traveling from Jinja to Kampala attempted to avoid colliding head-on with a cab that was overtaking. However, it struck five pedestrians, killing four of them on the scene and badly injuring one.

The deceased have been identified as Akumu Faith, a female aged 23years, a resident of Nsakya A’ zone in Najjembe Division, Buikwe district; Anyango Rose, a juvenile aged 14years, also a resident of Najjembe Division, Buikwe district; Awori Promise, a juvenile aged 1year and 8months and a daughter of the deceased (Akumu Faith); and Kimono Shamila, aged 3.

Ojara Eric, an 8-year-old boy, has been identified as the injured.

The bodies have been transported to the mortuary at Kawolo Hospital for postmortem examination.

The manhunt is on for the driver of the Tata lorry who fled the scene of the accident.
