The Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Judith Nabakooba, has survived a road crash that claimed the life of a pedestrian in Mpigi District.

The accident occurred on Wednesday morning, April 1, at Kibukuta swamp along the Kampala–Masaka highway as the minister traveled with her team to Rwampara District for an official function.

According to preliminary reports, the minister’s vehicle was involved in a collision that resulted in the death of a pedestrian at the scene.

Nabakooba and her driver sustained minor injuries and were rushed to Nkozi Hospital for treatment.

Officials indicated that the minister remained conscious after the incident and was able to communicate shortly afterward, easing concerns about her condition.

Authorities have since launched investigations into the cause of the crash, with early assessments pointing to circumstances that are yet to be fully established.

The incident adds to ongoing concerns about road safety on Uganda’s highways, particularly along the busy Kampala–Masaka route, which has recorded multiple accidents in recent years.

Further details are expected as police continue with inquiries into the crash.
