Police Arrest Prime Suspect in Killing of Senior Government HR Officer
Police in Kireka have arrested a key suspect in the murder of Moses Omaido, the Principal Human Resource Officer at the Local Government Finance Commission, who was killed last Thursday in Mbalwa, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the prime suspect—identified as Aliya Nakimera—has been taken into custody after reportedly fleeing to Mityana District shortly after the incident.
“She is now in custody and is expected to be charged,” Owoyesigyire confirmed, adding that investigations into the matter are still ongoing.
Nakimera is said to have been the ex-girlfriend of the deceased.
Her arrest follows earlier developments in the case, including the detention of Agadi Oliver, who was reportedly Omaido’s girlfriend at the time of his death.
She was initially taken in to assist police with inquiries.Preliminary police findings indicate that on the night before the incident, Agadi arrived at Omaido’s residence and found Nakimera already inside.
The two women reportedly spent the night in the same house.
In her statement to police, Agadi alleged that Nakimera stabbed Omaido following a disagreement on the morning of March 26, 2026.
She claimed the confrontation began when Nakimera allegedly prevented Omaido from leaving for work, leading to a heated argument that turned violent.
Agadi further stated that she was in the bathroom at the time of the stabbing and did not witness the act.
However, upon stepping out, she reportedly saw blood coming from the bedroom, though both Omaido and Nakimera were no longer in the house.
Omaido’s body was later discovered along a path leading to his home, lying in a pool of blood.
Police reports indicate he sustained a fatal stab wound to the lower front part of the neck, near the chest.
At the time of his death, Omaido was serving as a senior human resource officer at the Local Government Finance Commission, where he was widely regarded as diligent and professional.
Over the years, he had built a notable career in public service, previously working with Ngora District Local Government and Oyam District, as well as at the Uganda National Bureau of Standards and the Uganda National Meteorological Authority.
Police say further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
