Kotido — Eko FM has embarked on a major transformation drive, upgrading its studios, recruiting experienced media professionals, and launching a seven-day intensive training program for its presenters.

The training, which commenced today, is being conducted by media professional Experts and Associates, with a focus on strengthening on-air presentation and overall broadcast quality.

During the first session, James Peterson, a seasoned journalist and media consultant with experience at Kampala’s 93.3 KFM and a Next Media Associate, took presenters through voice control and its key elements. He emphasized clarity, tone, pace, and confidence as essential components of effective radio delivery. Peterson is also the founder of Radio Week, a company that organizes radio conferences and workshops. An international speaker, he has addressed audiences at Radio Days Africa, organized by the University of the Witwatersrand, and has served as a consultant for UNESCO on various media projects.

He also led a masterclass on program linking, guiding staff on how to seamlessly connect different segments of a show while maintaining listener engagement. Presenters were further introduced to the fundamentals of basic show structure, highlighting the importance of planning and flow in producing compelling content.

In another session, DJ Gero, formerly of Hot 100 and Touch FM Kampala, a senior journalist, programmer, and media consultant, trained participants on guidelines for powerful presentation. He focused on performance techniques, teaching presenters how to sound natural and spontaneous on air, while emphasizing the role of formatics in structuring professional broadcasts.

As part of the revamp, 91.2 Eko FM has also strengthened its workforce by bringing on board seasoned media practitioners. Among them is Apolot Lydia Wealth, formerly with 87.6 TBS FM, who joins the station as Programs Director. Also added to the team is experienced producer Mike Kemicali, who has previously worked with Etop FM, Voice of Teso, and Mama Bukedea, bringing extensive production expertise.

Lomojamoe, the station’s morning show host, expressed optimism about the training, noting that the practical sessions are already improving presenters’ confidence and on-air delivery.

The training is expected to run for seven days, after which presenters will return to the airwaves with enhanced skills in presentation, content delivery, and audience engagement.
