Uganda’s UN Envoy Dismisses Bobi Wine’s International Engagements
Kampala, Uganda — March 19, 2026Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, Adonia Ayebare, has downplayed the significance of recent international engagements by former presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine.
Ayebare reportedly dismissed the meetings and appearances by Kyagulanyi on the global stage, suggesting they hold little diplomatic weight in influencing Uganda’s official relations or policy direction.
Kyagulanyi, leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has in recent years engaged international stakeholders, including policymakers and human rights organizations, in a bid to highlight governance and human rights concerns in Uganda.
However, Ayebare emphasized that Uganda’s foreign policy and diplomatic engagements remain the preserve of the recognized government, and not individual political actors.
The remarks are likely to further deepen political debate over the role of opposition figures in shaping international opinion about Uganda.
