Moyo District Hosts Dialogue on Peace and Stability: Regional Cooperation for a Better Future

Moyo, Uganda – March 17, 2026, A significant dialogue aimed at promoting peace and stability in the region was held on tuesday at the Church of Uganda in Moyo, with the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Moyo, Mr. Geoffrey Filbert Ocailap, delivering the closing remarks.
The event brought together Ugandan and South Sudanese stakeholders to discuss peace-building efforts and explore solutions for regional challenges.
The meeting was attended by representatives from various organizations, including Sweden’s diplomatic partners, local district leaders, the LC5, the 67th Battalion Commander of the Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF), and church leaders.
The gathering focused on strengthening cross-border ties and enhancing collaboration between Uganda and South Sudan to foster peace and development.
Government Policies for Peace and Stability
The discussions highlighted key policies adopted by the Ugandan government to promote peace and stability in the West Nile region, which shares a border with South Sudan.
These policies include:
Pan-Africanism – Promoting unity and cooperation across the African continent to tackle shared challenges.
Open Door Refugee Policy – Uganda’s commitment to offering sanctuary to refugees, particularly from South Sudan, ensuring displaced individuals feel safe and welcome.
Free Trade Movement – Encouraging regional economic cooperation through trade agreements, aimed at boosting economic growth and regional integration.
Coexistence – Fostering peaceful coexistence between Ugandan and South Sudanese communities, ensuring long-term peace in the region.
These policies form part of Uganda’s broader strategy to build stronger relationships with neighboring countries and create an environment conducive to economic growth, cultural exchange, and sustainable peace.
A Unified Call for Cooperation
The event emphasized the need for continued collaboration between international and local partners to address ongoing regional challenges.
Sweden’s diplomatic representatives reaffirmed their support for peace-building initiatives in the West Nile region, underscoring the importance of international partnerships in creating stability.
Local leaders, including the DISO and church representatives, spoke about the role of community-based organizations in promoting peace, highlighting their efforts in providing support and building trust among the region’s diverse communities.
The involvement of the UPDF and the 67th Battalion Commander was also crucial in ensuring security, as peace efforts must be backed by solid security measures.

Continued Dialogue for Lasting Peace
Concluding the dialogue, RDC Geoffrey Filbert Ocailap stressed that peace is an ongoing process requiring the active involvement of all sectors of society.
He called on leaders, religious organizations, and the general public to continue engaging in dialogue and working towards a peaceful and prosperous future for the region.
The event underscored the importance of dialogue in bridging gaps between communities, particularly in a region still affected by conflict and displacement. By bringing together diverse stakeholders, the dialogue fostered understanding and reinforced the commitment of both Uganda and South Sudan to long-term peace and stability.
