KAMPALA — The Parliamentary Appointments Committee has vetted Samuel Akena, who has been reappointed as the Deputy Commissioner General of Prisons.

The committee, chaired by Anita Annet Among, conducted the vetting during a sitting at Parliament as part of the constitutional procedure required for senior public appointments.

Akena appeared before the committee to respond to questions from legislators regarding his qualifications, experience, and plans for the leadership of the Uganda Prisons Service if his reappointment is confirmed.

Following the vetting, the committee indicated that its decision will be formally communicated to Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for further action.

Under the Rules of Procedure of Parliament, the Appointments Committee reviews presidential appointments and advises the President before the final confirmation is made.

Akena’s reappointment is expected to strengthen the leadership structure of the Uganda Prisons Service as the institution continues implementing reforms aimed at improving prison management, inmate rehabilitation, and service delivery.

Once the committee submits its report, the President will make the final determination on whether Akena continues serving in the position.
