Shs10 Million Bounty Announced for Fugitive Kiboga Prison Warder
Kiboga, Uganda — The Uganda Prisons Service has announced a Shs10 million reward for anyone providing credible information leading to the arrest of Moses Anguyo, a prison warder accused of killing four people during a deadly shooting at Kiboga Government Prison.
In a statement on Monday, Senior Commissioner Frank Baine Mayanja, the spokesperson for Uganda Prisons, confirmed that the bounty was approved by the Commissioner General of Prisons to encourage members of the public to assist security agencies in apprehending the fugitive.
Anguyo, identified as Warder No. 13544 Moses Anguyo, allegedly opened fire at the prison on February 23, 2026, during what was described as a routine inspection.
The attack left four people dead, including senior prison officers and civilians caught in the line of fire.
Among the victims were Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Hope Catherine, Principal Officer I Akishuri Bright, Sarah Ayebare, the spouse of the Officer in Charge, and a toddler who succumbed to injuries sustained in the shooting.
Following the incident, Anguyo reportedly fled the scene and has remained at large despite intensive manhunt operations.
Authorities say the Shs10 million reward aims to motivate citizens to share any actionable information that could lead to his capture.
“Members of the public are urged to report any leads to the nearest police station or security office.
All information will be treated with strict confidentiality,” the prisons spokesperson said.Security agencies continue to coordinate efforts across the country to track down Anguyo, who is considered extremely dangerous.
Uganda Prisons and law enforcement agencies have appealed to the public to remain vigilant and cooperate fully to ensure the fugitive is brought to justice.
The incident has sparked nationwide concern over security at correctional facilities, with calls for tighter control measures and enhanced screening of personnel to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
