The Gulu Chief Magistrate’s Court has remanded former Kilak North parliamentary aspirant Christopher Ojera to prison over allegations of defrauding a businesswoman of Shs17.1 million.

Ojera appeared before the court on charges of obtaining money by false pretences.

Prosecution alleges that he received the money from the complainant after allegedly presenting himself as someone capable of facilitating a profitable business arrangement.

It is alleged that the accused convinced the businesswoman to give him the money with assurances that he would help secure a business opportunity.

However, prosecutors say he failed to deliver on the promise after receiving the funds.

The complainant is said to have reported the matter to police after several attempts to recover her money did not succeed.

During the court session, Ojera denied the allegations.

The magistrate, however, ordered that he be remanded to prison pending further investigations into the case.

The case was adjourned to allow prosecution to complete investigations, with Ojera expected to reappear in court on a later date.
