Hassan Male Mabirizi Further Remanded as Prosecution Seeks Time to Verify Sureties
City lawyer Hassan Male Mabirizi has been further remanded to Luzira Prison after the Prosecution requested additional time to verify the sureties presented in his bail application.
Mabirizi is facing charges of malicious communication and hate speech allegedly linked to TikTok posts targeting Chief Justice Flavian Zeija and Court of Appeal Justice Musa Ssekaana.
The matter came up on Wednesday before Chief Magistrate Ritah Neumbe Kidasa at the Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court.
Through his lawyers, Anthony Asiimwe and Yasin Ssentumbwe Munagomba, Mabirizi applied for bail, stating that he has a fixed place of residence in Kiwomu Zone, Mulago, Kampala.
In support of his application, he presented four sureties: lawyer Nasser Kibazo, his sister Rukiat Ssebadduka, his brother Ismeal Nsereko, and poultry farmer Coas Mbaziira.
However, the Prosecution told court it required more time to verify the authenticity and suitability of the proposed sureties before a ruling on the bail application could be made.
The court granted the request and adjourned the matter, extending Mabirizi’s remand as verification continues.
Court is expected to fix a new date for further hearing and determination of the bail application.
