Hajjat Namyalo Calls For Spiritual Renewal As Ramadan Begins
By Gad Masereka
As the crescent moon signals the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, the Manager of the Office of the NRM National Chairman, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, has called on Muslims across Uganda to approach the season with renewed faith, discipline and a commitment to moral renewal.
In her Ramadan message, Hajjat Namyalo, who also serves as Political Assistant to the National Chairman of the National Resistance Movement and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, framed the sacred month as more than a ritual observance. She described it as a profound spiritual journey that challenges believers to examine their lives, strengthen their character and draw closer to Almighty Allah.
“Ramadan is a period of repentance, self reflection and forgiveness. It is a time to renew our spiritual commitment to Almighty Allah and to embrace good morals, unity and compassion,” she said, urging Muslims to treat the fast as a discipline of both body and soul.
Drawing from the Holy Qur’an, she cited Surah Al Baqarah 2:183, which reminds believers that fasting was prescribed to help them attain righteousness. According to her, the verse underscores that the essence of fasting lies in building self control and nurturing piety rather than merely abstaining from food and drink.
She also referred to Surah Al Baqarah 2:185, which describes Ramadan as the month in which the Qur’an was revealed as guidance for mankind. Hajjat Namyalo noted that the revelation places a responsibility on believers to engage deeply with the scripture, reflect on its teachings and apply them in daily life. “Fasting is not merely abstaining from food and drink. It is about purifying the heart, controlling our actions and strengthening our obedience to Allah,” she said.
In a message of hope to those burdened by past mistakes, she quoted Surah Az Zumar 39:53, which calls on believers not to despair of Allah’s mercy. She said the verse captures the spirit of Ramadan as a season of second chances, forgiveness and spiritual restoration.
Beyond personal devotion, Hajjat Namyalo encouraged Muslims to translate their faith into acts of kindness and solidarity. She called on families to nurture peace within their homes, communities to extend support to the less privileged and the faithful to pray for stability and continued progress in the country. “As we fast and pray, may Allah accept our supplications, forgive our shortcomings and grant our nation peace and prosperity,” she said.
Ramadan is observed by Muslims worldwide through fasting from dawn to sunset, intensified prayer and acts of charity.
The commencement of the holy month is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon and is expected to begin upon official confirmation by Islamic authorities. For millions of believers, it marks a sacred period of reflection, generosity and renewed spiritual purpose.
