UPDF Soldiers Raid Home of Ntenjeru North MP-Elect Patrick Nsanja in Search of Bobi Wine
Security forces attached to the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) on Friday night raided the home of Ntenjeru North MP-elect Patrick Nsanja in Kirindi Village, Kayunga District, reportedly searching for opposition leader Bobi Wine.
According to Nsanja’s family members, heavily armed soldiers surrounded the residence at around 10:00pm, demanding to know the whereabouts of Bobi Wine.
Witnesses say the soldiers conducted a thorough search of the premises, creating panic among family members and neighbors.
“They came in large numbers and ordered everyone to stay inside. They kept asking where Bobi Wine was,” a family member told this publication.
However, Bobi Wine was reportedly not at the home at the time of the operation.The raid comes amid heightened political tensions following the January 15 General Election.
Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, is said to have fled his residence in Magere on January 16 after security forces reportedly raided his home shortly after the polls.Security agencies have not yet issued an official statement regarding the Kayunga operation.
The incident is likely to intensify concerns among opposition supporters over continued security operations targeting political figures in the aftermath of the election.
