Two Nabbed with 30 Live Rounds in Gulu City Operation
Police in Gulu City have arrested two men after they were allegedly found in possession of 30 rounds of live ammunition during a security operation conducted on Sunday.
The suspects have been identified as Joshua Opwomungu, 18, and Willy Kilama, 40. Authorities said the pair was apprehended following a coordinated operation by security personnel targeting illegal firearms and ammunition within the city.
According to police sources, officers acted on intelligence reports before intercepting the suspects.
A subsequent search reportedly led to the recovery of 30 live rounds of ammunition. The exact calibre of the ammunition had not been disclosed by press time.
The two suspects are currently detained at Gulu Central Police Station as investigations continue. Police are working to establish the origin of the ammunition and whether the suspects have links to any criminal groups operating in the region.
Under Ugandan law, unauthorized possession of ammunition is a criminal offence that attracts severe penalties upon conviction.
Security officials have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order in Gulu and surrounding areas, urging residents to share timely information that could help prevent crime.
