Gen Muhoozi Names New Armoured Division Commander in UPDF Leadership Changes

Kampala, Uganda — The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced new leadership changes within the Armoured Division following the death of its former commander, Brig Gen Deus Sande.

In the latest reshuffle, Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba appointed Brig Gen Jackson Pande Kajuba as the new Commander of the Armoured Division headquartered in Masaka.

Kajuba assumes command at a time when the division remains a key component of the army’s mechanised and rapid response operations.

Brig Gen Sande, whom Kajuba replaces, recently passed away after suffering severe breathing complications, creating a leadership gap that military authorities moved swiftly to fill to ensure operational continuity.

The changes also saw Wilson Bagonza Rwakanara, previously serving under the Special Forces Command, promoted to the rank of Brigadier General and assigned as Deputy Commander of the Armoured Division.

His appointment is expected to reinforce the command structure of the unit and support ongoing operational responsibilities.

The Armoured Division is among the UPDF’s strategic formations, responsible for armoured warfare capabilities, troop mobility, and frontline deployment readiness.

Military observers say the latest adjustments reflect efforts to maintain stability within the command structure while strengthening leadership following the loss of a senior officer.

No further details about additional appointments or transfers were immediately available at the time of publication.
