National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) Ian Kyeyune Has Been Declared LC5 Chairperson
After a decade away from political office, the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) Ian Kyeyune has been declared the winner of the Wakiso district chairperson seat.
Kyeyune, a former Wakiso District Chairperson got 177,710 votes to beat off competition from National Unity Platform’s (NUP) Najja Nasiifu who got 99,235 in second place, and DF’s Nakafeero Flavia with 10,597 votes in third place.
“Accordingly, as Returning Officer for Wakiso Electoral district and in accordance with Section 147 of the Local Governments Act, Cap. 138, I declare Kyeyune Ian Sengozi who has obtained the largest number of votes to be elected candidate for Wakiso electoral district” Wakiso district returning officer Tolbert Musinguzi declared.
Following the announcement of the results, NUP’s Najja Nasiifu protested the results by seating on the floor in front of Tolbert Musinguzi’s desk.
However this prompted police officers to drag him out of the tally room and in the eventual harassment tore his blue pair of trousers leaving him almost half naked at the entrance of the Wakiso district tally centre.
According to Musinguzi, the total number of valid votes cast for candidates in the election were 287,542 votes with 3,003 votes rejected to account for the 290, 545 counted votes while 578 ballot papers were spoilt during the elections.
