Speaker Among Mobilizes Thousands In Bugweri To Back President Museveni In 2026 Elections
The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Annet Anita Among, on Saturday drew a massive crowd in Idudi Town Council, Bugweri District, where she rallied residents to reaffirm their unwavering support for President Yoweri Museveni and the National Resistance Movement.
The gathering, which attracted thousands from across the district, marked a renewed wave of grassroots mobilization aimed at consolidating the NRM’s dominance in the Busoga sub-region ahead of the next political season.
Addressing the charged crowd, Among, who also serves as the NRM’s Second National Vice Chairperson for the Women’s League, urged the people of Bugweri to focus on the government’s achievements rather than its shortcomings.
She reminded the residents that under Museveni’s leadership, Uganda has experienced visible progress in social and economic transformation. “Despite the challenges that come with development, the NRM government has achieved significant milestones,” she said, citing the Universal Primary and Secondary Education programs, expanded road networks, and the Parish Development Model as examples of initiatives aimed at turning households into participants in the money economy.
Her message struck a chord with the audience, many of whom expressed appreciation for the visible government investments in infrastructure and education across the region.
Among’s tone carried both conviction and reassurance as she called for unity and continuity of leadership. “Our focus should be on safeguarding the gains we have made. President Museveni’s leadership has been consistent in delivering stability and opportunity, and it is our duty as citizens to protect and advance that legacy,” she emphasized.
Bugweri, one of the youngest districts in the country after its creation in 2018 from Iganga, has historically been a stronghold of the NRM, owing to the political influence of the late Haji Kirunda Kiveijinja and other founding figures who championed the party’s philosophy of steady progress.
Among’s visit to the area appeared to rekindle that loyalty while reminding residents of the unfinished journey toward full socio-economic empowerment.
The rally was graced by several Members of Parliament, including Hon. Racheal Magoola, the Woman MP for Bugweri, Hon. Daudi Kabanda of Kasambya County, and Hon. Muhammad Ssentayi of Bukoto West, among others.
Their presence underscored the event’s political weight, reflecting a shared resolve among NRM leaders to reinforce the party’s base across Busoga. Magoola commended the Speaker for her hands-on approach, noting that such engagements help restore confidence in the party’s grassroots structures.
Observers noted that the event also marked the reemergence of the President’s mobilization arm under the Office of the Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs, headed by Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo.
Her presence in Bugweri followed another successful rally in Mayuge District a day earlier, signaling a broader revitalization of the NRM’s outreach machinery in the east.
Among’s next stop is expected to be in Teso and other parts of Busoga as she continues her efforts to fortify support for the ruling party.
For many in Bugweri, the rally served not just as a political event but as a reminder of the enduring bond between the NRM and the communities it has sought to uplift.
