Bukomansimbi District is preparing for a major gathering at Bulenge Playground on Sunday, September 21, where residents will hold a thanksgiving celebration in honour of Hajji Shafic Mwanje, who was recently elected National Chairperson for Persons with Disabilities under the ruling National Resistance Movement’s Central Executive Committee.

The event, organised by his supporters, is intended both as a gesture of gratitude and as a demonstration of political mobilization in a community where Hajji Mwanje also serves as District NRM Chairperson.

Hajji Mwanje described the thanksgiving as a dual expression of faith and solidarity. “This is a victory not for me alone but for the people I represent. It is a moment to thank God and also to reaffirm our commitment to service,” he said, stressing that his new role marks a step forward in inclusive leadership and advocacy for vulnerable groups.

The Office of the National Chairman, where Hajji Mwanje serves as Director of Mobilization, has pledged to use the occasion to blend celebration with empowerment.

Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, Senior Presidential Advisor and Head of ONC, confirmed that her team will distribute start-up tools to residents in a bid to uplift household incomes. “We are coming to Bukomansimbi not just to celebrate Hajji Shafic’s victory, but to empower the people, especially the youth and women,” she said in a briefing at her Kyambogo office.

She explained that the distribution of items such as sewing machines, carpentry kits, welding tools, hairdressing equipment and agricultural inputs reflects the ONC’s commitment to practical support rather than rhetoric.

Hajjat Namyalo underscored that political mobilization must be tied to socio-economic transformation. “We are walking the talk. As ONC, we believe leadership must be action-oriented and that people must see and feel the government’s support at the grassroots,” she remarked.

Her comments framed the thanksgiving as a blend of celebration, worship and hands-on empowerment that seeks to restore public confidence in government programmes.

Hajji Mwanje, who has been widely recognized for his charity work, praised ONC for standing with him and applauded the people of Bukomansimbi for their unwavering trust. “This victory has showcased what inclusive leadership looks like, where people with disabilities are recognized, represented and empowered. I pledge to serve with loyalty, humility and focus,” he said.

Alongside prayers and music performances, the event is expected to double as a rallying point for the NRM ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Both Hajji Mwanje and Hajjat Namyalo are expected to urge residents to rally behind President Museveni, highlighting the government’s promise of continued peace, development and stability.

For Bukomansimbi, Sunday’s gathering will be more than a thanksgiving; it will be a reminder of how politics, service and community empowerment increasingly intertwine at the grassroots level.
