Preparations for the 2025 National Resistance Movement (NRM) Delegates’ Conference have entered a decisive stage, with the party’s top leadership urging committees to deliver an event that reflects both discipline and efficiency.

The conference, scheduled to take place at Kololo Independence Grounds, is expected to draw more than 25,000 leaders from across Uganda, underscoring its political weight as the country edges closer to the 2026 general elections.

During a high-level planning session held at Kololo on Monday, Secretary General Richard Todwong set an uncompromising tone, calling on organizers to surpass the standards of previous gatherings.

He reminded the committees that their dedication and attention to detail would determine not only the success of the conference but also the image of the ruling party. “My expectations from the organizing committee are to do a much better job than before. They should be much more committed to their work and make sure that the conference is successful at all levels,” Todwong said, stressing discipline as a cornerstone of the process.

Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, the Senior Presidential Advisor and head of the Office of the NRM National Chairman, echoed Todwong’s sentiments but with a sharper caution.

She reminded members that the credibility of the conference would be judged by the collective performance of the teams tasked with logistics, security, mobilization, and protocol. “This is not an individual show. Each of you has a role to play, and the success of the Delegates’ Conference will depend on how committed we all are,” Namyalo said, urging committees to embrace their assignments with seriousness.

The preparations are already visible on the ground, with the accreditation of delegates underway at the Nakawa ICT Centre.

Security arrangements have been heightened, and protocol subcommittees are working closely with the Secretariat to ensure that the event runs without disruption.

Hon. Emmanuel Dombo, the NRM Director of Communication and spokesperson for the organizing team, confirmed that oversight is being provided by the First National Vice Chairman, Al Hajji Moses Kigongo, while the day-to-day operations remain under Todwong’s direct supervision. “We are doing all this on behalf of the National Chairman, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who is also the President of the Republic of Uganda,” Dombo explained, framing the preparations as part of the President’s broader political agenda.

The planning meeting drew attendance from senior party figures, including Deputy Secretary General Namayanja Rose Nsereko, National Treasurer Amb. Barbara Nekesa, Deputy National Treasurer Jacqueline Kyatuhaire, Director of Mobilization Dr. Rosemary Nansubuga Seninde, Director of Finance and Administration Hajjat Medina Naham, and NRM Electoral Commission Commissioner Driwaru Zaitun.

Their presence highlighted the importance attached to the conference, which is seen as a platform for setting the party’s political tone and refining its strategy ahead of the 2026 polls.

As the ruling party readies itself for a gathering of such scale, expectations remain high that the event will serve not only as a showcase of organizational ability but also as a barometer of the NRM’s cohesion and preparedness for the electoral contest that lies ahead.
