Tank sellers in Kisenyi have today clarified the situation regarding the alleged abduction of National Unity Platform (NUP) Buyaga East, Kagadi aspirant Mr. Ssetuba Derrick, who is accused of stealing millions of shillings. According to case number 40/06/08/2025 at Nsambya Ggoonya Police, Ssetuba Derrick is alleged to have stolen over 15 million UGX from Kisenyi tank sellers since March 2025.

Muhereza Namara, who reported the suspect, says that since March this year she has been trying to contact Ssetuba, but he has been avoiding her. She was therefore surprised to see social media reports claiming he was abducted. Namara stated that no one abducted him; instead, he was arrested on a theft case. She is willing to release him once he repays the money owed.

Namara added, “I am not involved in politics, nor can I be. I am just protecting my business. Once Ssetuba pays me, he will be released from jail.”

More than five people have come forward to testify on how Ssetuba took money and refused to deliver services. These include Christine and Busobozi Patrick, who also claim to have given him money. In total, the amount owed is over 16 million UGX.

In a press statement released by the police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, Luke Owesigire said:

“The police at Kabalagala are holding Ssetuba Derrick on allegations of obtaining money by false pretenses from Namara Omuhereza, amounting to UGX 8,000,000. Contrary to social media reports claiming the suspect was abducted, he was lawfully arrested and is currently detained at Kabalagala Police Station.

Two more victims have since come forward after learning of his arrest. The allegations against him will be thoroughly investigated, and the case file will be forwarded to the Office of the Resident State Attorney (RSA) for perusal and advice.

Further details will be provided in due course.” Luke said.
