Nebbi District, 15 July 2025 — In a powerful display of political momentum, the Minister of State for Energy and Mineral Development (Minerals), Hon. Phiona Nyamutoro, together with the Head of the RDC Secretariat and Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU), Maj. Martha Asiimwe, officially welcomed hundreds of former opposition leaders and supporters into the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ranks.

The event, held in Nebbi District, saw former members of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and National Unity Platform (NUP) publicly declare allegiance to the ruling party. The new converts pledged to mobilize grassroots support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni ahead of upcoming national engagements.
“This is a significant moment not just for Nebbi, but for Uganda,” said Hon. Nyamutoro while addressing the crowd. “It shows that our message of peace, development, and progress is resonating across party lines.”

Maj. Asiimwe praised the move as a gesture of unity and political maturity, noting that the ACU continues to support initiatives that foster national cohesion and integrity.
The defectors cited reasons such as strengthened development agendas, better service delivery, and the desire for peace and stability as key motivations behind their decision to join the NRM.

As Nebbi becomes a hotbed of political activity, NRM officials hailed the development as a strategic boost in consolidating support in the West Nile sub-region.
