62nd GC Elects Ugandan Theologian Dr. Moses Maka As ECD Executive Secretary
By Gad Masereka
The 62nd General Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, convening on July 8, 2025, delivered a momentous decision by voting Pastor Dr. Moses Ndimukika Maka as the new Executive Secretary of the East-Central Africa Division (ECD).
The election marks a significant chapter in the leadership of the Adventist Church across the region, with Dr. Maka stepping into a role that demands both spiritual depth and administrative acumen.
Born on June 13, 1969, in Buwagi, Budondo, Jinja District, Uganda, Dr. Maka has cultivated a life of ministry marked by humility, scholarship, and service.
Since his ordination in 1995, he has faithfully shepherded congregations and led church districts in areas such as Jinja Central, Iganga, and Busei. His ministerial journey would later broaden into education and institutional leadership, notably as a lecturer, and eventually as Principal and Director of Bugema University’s Kampala campus, where he helped shape future ministers and administrators for the church.
Dr. Maka’s academic credentials reflect a pursuit of theological and intellectual excellence. After completing secondary education at Bugema Adventist Secondary School, he earned a Bachelor of Theology degree from Spicer Adventist University in India.
He later proceeded to Newbold College in England, where he obtained a Master of Arts in Theology, and in 2015, he graduated with a Ph.D. in Biblical Theology from Sahmyook University in South Korea. These qualifications not only cemented his theological grounding but also prepared him for roles requiring critical leadership within the global Adventist community.
His administrative capabilities became more widely recognized when, in 2021, he was elected as the Executive Secretary of the Uganda Union Mission. Just a year later, in August 2022, he was entrusted with the Union President role during the ECD Session.
Throughout these positions, Dr. Maka placed a strong emphasis on mission-driven leadership, spiritual revival, financial accountability, pastoral empowerment, and the holistic growth of the Adventist Church in Uganda.
The response to his election as ECD Executive Secretary has been overwhelmingly supportive.
In a message sent shortly after the vote, Eld Apollo Mubiru, Director of Communication for East Buganda Field, extended heartfelt congratulations on behalf of the field. “Your dedication to ministry, your unwavering faith, and your exemplary leadership have all been clear signs of your readiness for this divine responsibility,” Mubiru wrote. “May the Holy Spirit guide your every decision, strengthen you for the journey ahead, and fill you with the grace and peace needed to shepherd God’s people faithfully.”
As he assumes this new continental role, Dr. Maka carries with him the expectations of a growing and vibrant faith community.
The ECD encompasses numerous countries with diverse cultural, linguistic, and administrative landscapes, and the Executive Secretary’s responsibilities include not only coordination and strategic oversight but also nurturing unity and mission alignment among the various unions.
For many in Uganda and across the ECD, Dr. Maka’s appointment is both a recognition of his long-standing commitment and a hopeful sign of the church’s future.
With a record of servant leadership and a vision rooted in spiritual growth and organizational integrity, he steps into office at a time when the Adventist Church continues to expand its mission across East and Central Africa.
