By Hason Mutunzi Bwambale | Kyadondo
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is set to pick his Expression of Interest and Presidential Flag Bearer nomination forms on Saturday , June 28, 2025, from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission headquarters on Plot 13, Kyadondo Road in Kampala.
The announcement was made on 24th June, Tuesday morning by the NRM’s Director for Information and Publicity, Emmanuel Dombo, while addressing the press at the party’s Electoral Commission offices. Dombo said President Museveni’s decision to participate in the internal party process was a clear sign of his continued commitment to leading Uganda into another era of stability and development.
“President Museveni remains the anchor of stability and progress. His decision to pick forms underscores his readiness to lead, once again, with vision and experience,” Dombo told journalists.
During the same press briefing, Dombo revealed that ten Members of Parliament had already been confirmed as unopposed in the ongoing internal nomination exercise. Among these are Government Chief Whip Hamson Obua Denis, Minister of Health Dr. Ruth Aceng Jane, Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, and former Minister of Defence Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja. Dombo noted that the unopposed status of these senior leaders was a reflection of their excellent track record and overwhelming support at the grassroots level.
Also present at the briefing was NRM Communications Officer Mulindwa Rogers, who emphasized the party’s wide-reaching popularity and capacity to mobilize. He dismissed claims by rival groups of holding the people’s mandate, stating that the NRM has consistently demonstrated that it is the true face of popular support in Uganda.
“Ours is not noise on the streets. It’s service, stability, and leadership across all levels of society,” Mulindwa said. “We don’t need slogans. We are the real people power.”
Meanwhile, the nomination exercise continued across the country, attracting more aspirants seeking to contest in the party primaries. In Kasese District, three notable figures were nominated to contest for the Kasese Municipality MP seat on the NRM ticket. These include Kithulha Francis Mugisa, Nassuna Maria Diana, and Doug Saturday. The trio, according to party officials, met the requirements and expressed commitment to a peaceful and issue-based campaign.
The NRM’s internal electoral process continues to gain momentum as the party gears up for the 2026 General Elections. Officials from the Electoral Commission have reiterated their commitment to ensuring a transparent, credible, and disciplined nomination process that reflects the values and principles of the party.
