
Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Cooperatives, in collaboration with the Global Commerce Heart and with enhance from the European Union (EU), has launched a brand recent challenge that aims at empowering Uganda’s puny and medium enterprises (SMEs).
The four-yr sh33billion challenge aims to space SMEs to rob advantage of the opportunities within the worldwide market. It is designed to substantiate that Uganda’s SMEs like the policy and industry atmosphere they want to develop, compete, and commerce both within the continent and internationally, with emphasis on the EU market.
The challenge locations emphasis on quality compliance and standards, bringing e-commerce within reach of extra SMEs, and fostering enhancements, among others.
Speaking steady by procedure of the originate this day, the Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Cooperatives, Francis Mwebesa, acknowledged the challenge will make a contribution to increasing Uganda’s exports to the EU, that are presently valued at USD 1.4 billion.

“The challenge aligns with the National Sort Opinion IV, which aims to amplify family incomes, fat monetization of the financial system, and sustainable employment,” Mwebesa acknowledged.
“We ask the challenge to make a contribution to our ten-fold speak procedure to develop Uganda’s financial system from USD 50 billion to USD 500 billion by 2040.”
Sanne Willems, the team chief of the European Union Delegation to Uganda, acknowledged, “With this €8 million funding, we are confident we’re going to enhance Uganda’s commerce and funding profile in tourism, logistics, and grains.”
