President Museveni Hosts Muslim Iftar Dinner, Reaffirms Socioeconomic Transformation As Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Wins Excellence Award

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and First Lady Janet Kataha Museveni yesterday hosted Muslim leaders and faithful for an Iftar dinner at State House, Entebbe, with a strong emphasis on socioeconomic transformation. The event, held on the 25th night of Ramadan, brought together religious leaders, government officials, and business figures to discuss development and national unity.
Muslim Leaders Urged to Champion Economic Empowerment
Speaking on behalf of the Mufti of Uganda, Deputy Mufti Sheikh Ali Waiswa called upon Muslim leaders to integrate messages of economic empowerment in their teachings. He highlighted the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council’s poverty eradication programs, which complement government initiatives.
Sheikh Waiswa also encouraged Muslims to use the holy month of Ramadan as a time for reconciliation, forgiveness, and repentance. “This is a period to strengthen our bonds and work together for the prosperity of our nation,” he said.
President Museveni Calls for Active Participation in Wealth Creation
In his address, President Museveni commended the Muslim community for embracing government programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM). He acknowledged initial religious concerns over interest charges but noted that scholars had recognized the necessity of adjusting for inflation.
“Prayer alone will not lift people out of poverty. Engaging in income-generating activities is key to economic liberation,” the President stated. He urged continued support for government initiatives aimed at improving household incomes.
Outstanding Muslims Recognized with Awards
The ceremony also featured the recognition of several Muslims for their contributions to national development. Among the awardees was Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, Senior Presidential Advisor and Manager of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), who received an Excellent Service Award for her dedicated leadership.
Other honored were; Dr. Yahya Ssemuddu and Sheikh Erias Kigozi, celebrated for their impactful roles in society.
Upon receiving her award, Hajjat Namyalo expressed gratitude and reaffirmed her commitment to serving Ugandans. “Despite challenges, we remain steadfast in supporting the President’s vision for transformation,” she said, while calling for renewed backing for President Museveni in the 2026 elections.
