LCV Kotido Calls Upon Karamoja Leaders to Spearhead Peace

Kotido, Uganda – In a significant move to address inter-ethnic tensions, leaders from Kotido and Kaabong districts gathered at Muledo to discuss strategies for resource sharing and peaceful coexistence. This dialogue aimed to bridge divisions and foster a spirit of unity and collaboration among the communities.
During the dialogue, LCV Kotido Lotee Paul Komol emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration in fostering community prosperity. “Our communities must work together to ensure that we all thrive and maintain peace,” Komol stressed. He acknowledged the role of traditional leaders and elders in mediating conflicts and promoting harmony, highlighting their invaluable wisdom and experience.
Komol called upon political, community, and religious leaders to take active roles in promoting peace and resource sharing. “Leaders must spearhead efforts to unify our communities and address the challenges we face. By working together, we can create a brighter future for all,” he stated. Komol’s message resonated with the attendees, who expressed their commitment to fostering cooperation and understanding.

Kotido RDC Charles Ichogor, the event’s chief guest, underscored the significance of resource sharing for community development. “Resource sharing and peaceful coexistence are essential for our community’s future. Together, we can create an environment where everyone benefits,” Ichogor remarked. His words echoed the sentiments of the dialogue, reinforcing the need for collaborative efforts.
Lokut Joseph Mukasa, the Vice Chairperson of Kaabong, also voiced his support for the initiative, emphasizing the need for ongoing cooperation. “Sharing resources such as water and pasture is crucial for our communities. We must continue to foster peaceful coexistence,” Mukasa added.
The dialogue provided a platform for leaders to discuss strategies for promoting peace and resource sharing. Participants explored the importance of cross-border cooperation in managing shared resources and addressing common challenges. The discussion highlighted the role of women and youth in peacebuilding, emphasizing their contributions to fostering understanding and collaboration within and between communities.
The inter-ethnic dialogue, with the participation of leaders like LCV Lotee Paul Komol, marks a significant step towards fostering peace and collaboration in the region. The support of NARWOA, WIPC, and other stakeholders signifies a unified effort to address common challenges. As the communities of Kotido and Kaabong continue to work together, they are set to build a peaceful and prosperous future through mutual respect and resource sharing. The commitment of leaders like Komol ensures that the momentum for peace and development will be sustained, paving the way for a brighter future for all.
This event was facilitated by Nakere Rural Women Activists (NARWOA) in collaboration with the Women International Peace Centre (WIPC) and funded by Norway and UN Women. The coordinated efforts of these organizations have provided a solid foundation for ongoing dialogue and cooperation.
