Unknown Assailants Rob Chinese Nationals & Ugandan Worker Shs 30 Million In Kampala
In a brazen act of robbery, five unidentified assailants targeted two Chinese nationals and a Ugandan worker at Royal Plaza on Luwum Street, Kampala. According to reports from Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the victims were identified as Zhang Danbing and Gu Xuchu, proprietors of Kyoga Textile Company Limited, along with their employee, Ouma Duncan.
The robbers, armed with machetes, swiftly subdued the victims and proceeded to ransack their belongings. Among the loot were Shs 30 million in cash, 1,000 USD, passports, four mobile phones, a laptop, and a DVR decoder. The substantial amount of cash found on the victims is believed to have attracted the attention of the assailants.
“We are treating this incident with utmost seriousness,” stated Owoyesigyire. “The safety and security of all residents, including foreign nationals, are of paramount importance to us.”
Law enforcement officials have already secured crucial evidence from the scene, including ropes, a machete, a bag containing burglary tools, and empty sacks. DNA samples will be collected to aid in the ongoing investigation.
In light of this incident, authorities are urging businesses to implement heightened security measures, especially during after-hours operations. “Depositing cash in banks and employing security guards can significantly mitigate the risk of such crimes,” Owoyesigyire emphasized.
