Parents at PMM Girls School The New Light Paper

Parents and former students of PMM Girls School Jinja stormed the school grounds today to protest charges of homosexuality leveled against one of the female instructors.

According to Rose Kalembe, head of the PMM Old Girl’s Association, the protest was sparked by the school administration’s unwillingness to resolve concerns filed by parents about the behavior of a teacher known as Lydia Mukoda.

According to Kalembe, parents had previously contacted the school administration with claims that their children were assaulted by the same accused instructor. She says that she has had multiple meetings with the school administration and Mukoda, who has constantly disputed the charges as unfounded.

A mom who spoke on the condition of anonymity accused Mukoda of sodomising her daughter, who finished her O’levels at the institution last year but suffered difficulties that may have jeopardized her ability to continue her education.

Another parent, Martha Mulondo, claims that Mukoda was previously known for being kind to the girls until her behavior began to be questioned at several meetings. She does, however, note that the school administration seems hesitant to do a comprehensive investigation into the situation.

According to Fazila Kauma, the deputy mayor of Jinja City, they are working with the municipal education department, police, and other stakeholders to ensure that the situation is examined and addressed without harming the school’s public image. The management of the school has refused to comment on the situation.

According to Kiira regional police spokesman James Mubi, efforts are ongoing to engage all parties involved. The parents’ protest comes at a time when parliament is attempting to approve a new anti-homosexuality bill after judges ruled that the previous one was invalid since it was enacted without a quorum.
