Victoria University, one of Uganda’s premier private institutions, celebrated its 8th graduation ceremony in grand style at the Speke Resort Convention Centre Munyonyo on Friday. The event was graced by prominent figures, including the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Thomas Tayebwa, who officiated as the Chief Guest, alongside Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, founder of the university and chairman of Ruparelia Group.
A total of 1,470 students were conferred degrees, diplomas, and certificates across various disciplines, marking a significant milestone in their academic journeys. The ceremony highlighted the university’s growing reputation as a hub for innovation and academic excellence, especially with its focus on integrating technology like Artificial Intelligence into education.
In his keynote speech, Tayebwa praised Victoria University for its commitment to equipping students with skills relevant to today’s job market. He also acknowledged Dr Sudhir Ruparelia’s pivotal role in transforming Uganda’s education landscape. “Dr Sudhir has invested not just in bricks and mortar, but in shaping the future of young Ugandans by providing access to quality education,” Tayebwa noted.
The Deputy Speaker also used the occasion to advise the graduates to be mindful of their digital presence. “Social media is a tool that can either build or ruin your reputation. Use it wisely to reflect the values you want to project,” he said, emphasizing the need for professionalism in the digital age.
Among the notable graduates was celebrated photographer Francis Isano, from Next Media Services, parent company of NBS TV. Isano’s academic achievement was recognized as a testament to his dedication to both his craft and education.
Victoria University Vice Chancellor Dr Lawrence Muganga commended the graduates for their resilience and hard work, acknowledging the sacrifices made by both students and their families. “Today is a celebration of your efforts and the support systems around you. We are proud to send you out into the world as capable professionals ready to make an impact,” he said.
The event was attended by dignitaries from various sectors, including Godfrey Kirumira, the Honorary Consul of Namibia to Uganda, and vice-chancellors from other universities. With its market-driven academic programs and innovative approach, Victoria University continues to set the pace in higher education, preparing students to thrive in an increasingly competitive global environment.
