Ministers of State for National Guidance and Youth and Children Affairs, Godfrey Kabbyanga and Balaam Barugahara, paid a courtesy visit to the Omusinga wa Rwenzururu at his palace in Kasese District. Balaam acknowledged the King’s royalty, describing him as a beloved king and father, and thanked him for hosting them at the palace.

During their interaction, the ministers discussed how the youth can contribute to the country’s development. Minister Balaam pledged to collaborate with the Rwenzururu kingdom to empower Uganda’s youth.

Following the meeting, the King accepted the request to designate Honorable Kabbyanga as the liaison between PLU and the government. Minister Balaam emphasized the importance of government collaboration with the kingdom to support the youth, who constitute the majority of the population in Rwenzururu.

Balaam highlighted that Rwenzururu has over 1.5 million people, with 85% being young individuals. He proposed the revival of Mubuku Youth Training College, which closed 40 years ago, to complement government efforts in supporting youth livelihoods. Balaam confirmed that the college would be revived and rehabilitated with government funding, as part of its commitment to establishing more institutes for empowerment.

Furthermore, Balaam informed the King about government programs such as the PDM revolving fund, through which youth can access capital to enhance their livelihoods. He also mentioned other programs that provide investment opportunities for women in their enterprises.

Balaam Barugahara serves as the Vice Chairperson for the Patriotic League of Uganda, while Kabbyanga is the Coordinator of the Patriotic League of Uganda in the Rwenzori Region. Both ministers hold positions in Uganda’s cabinet.
