30-Year-Old Man Sentenced To 20 Years In Prison For Rapping His 80-Year-Old Grandmother
Jinja High Court has delivered a significant ruling, sentencing a 30-year-old man to 20 years in prison for a disturbing crime involving the rape of his 80-year-old grandmother.
Godfrey Lukiise, who was married to two wives and a father of six at the time of the offense, pleaded guilty during a court session overseen by Justice Winfred Nabisinde.
The harrowing incident occurred on September 14, 2022, at Lubani central village in Namagera town council, Jinja District. State Prosecutor Lawrence Mukiibi revealed that Lukiise, upon arriving at his grandmother Anna Kasakya’s residence, violently attacked her, causing her immense pain before committing the sexual assault. The victim’s daughter, Migamba, discovered the heinous act in progress and raised the alarm, leading to Lukiise’s arrest as he attempted to flee the scene.
Medical examinations confirmed Lukiise’s mental competence, while Kasakya received necessary medical care following the ordeal. During court proceedings, Prosecutor Mukiibi emphasized the vulnerability of the elderly victim and condemned Lukiise’s actions as reprehensible, highlighting the duty of family members to protect, not harm, their loved ones.
Lukiise’s case also involved a plea bargain process at Kirinya Prisons in Jinja city, where he expressed remorse and took responsibility for his actions. Defense lawyer Daniel Mudumbusi presented a plea bargain agreement, which the court approved, resulting in the 20-year sentence. Justice Nabisinde ordered a deduction of the time Lukiise spent on remand, considering his status as a first-time offender with familial responsibilities.
