Kasese: The Forum For Democratic Change (FDC) youths in Rugendabara – Kikongo town council have vowed to petition the EC over organising a chaotic elections in their Town council that was conducted amidst tight security.
This came as the residents of Upper Rugendabara ||B in Rugendabara Kikongo town council, Busongora north, in Kasese District rejected candidates who resided in other villages from being elected as leaders even if their names appeared in the voters regester . “No person can come from another villages to come and lead us here, let them go back to where they reside from and be elected there because if some one get a problem you can not cross to another village looking for your leader to help you” said the residents.
As the voters continued insisting, the Forum for Democratic change decided to withdraw their candidates alleging that the NRM candidates have been allowed to be voted in this villages where they do not reside yet FDC’s candidates from other polling station have been disqualified over the same matter. The voters and FDC supporters began exchanging words that escalated much tension leading to heavy deployment of security officers to calm the situation.
According to the FDC chairman Rugendabara TC Mr. Bwambale Ramadhan said “nine FDC candidates have withdrawn from the race after finding that the EC has not come out to clarify on voting leaders who stay in other villages to be voted in anothers when their names are in the voters regester, ” the EC is not free and fair because some FDC candidates from Lhukuka, Kikongo, and Burambira were disqualified by the Polling officers alleging them to be coming from another village and yet here NRM candidates have been voted even when they come from another village”. said Ramadan.
While speaking with the subcounty supervisor Mr. Siira Jamil said, “the problem came from the newly formed villages where by some members come from one village and there names appear in another village, so this has brought confusion in these elections and if there is someone or a party with a complaint should petition” Siirà said.
However, Nziwa Sasiyo blamed the DR for not putting every voter in his or her respective village to avoid such confusion among the people.
The local leaders also called apon the EC to clarify on this matter to avoid confusion in the forth coming elections.
