These included Youth Leaders, Leaders of sub counties, Parish, District, Women leaders, teachers, and student leaders.
The Host of the Program and Head Teacher for Bwera Secondary School, Bwambale Yokonia, appreciated the government for the support towards the program, which has enabled it to become one of the best-performing schools in the district. He said that in 2023, they registered 107 Students in Division 1 out of 199 students in Senior Four and 106 out of 123 students passed with 2 principal passes and above out of 123 students in A level. He further stated that the enrollment has increased to 1200 students. Bwambale requested for more computers to boost the current 50 to accommodate more students studying computer studies, citing that they are not enough for the 110 students. He also sought support in the construction of a science laboratory.
Furthermore, he revealed plans to construct a Multipurpose hall aimed to host big functions such as the one held at the school and the plan to construct a wall fence valued at a cost of 100 Million, saying they have already made blocks locally. This, he says, will ensure learners are secure and the school’s facilities.
He further revealed the need for about 1.5Bn for the construction of blocks to support Practical Lessons at the school. The Minister for National Guidance Godfrey Kabbyanga assured him that ministries of Health and Education will be consulted to see how they can support the school in their needs to enhance the education of learners.
The program, which is part of the revival of ideological awareness among members of the public, is an effort designed by the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance focusing on enabling Ugandans to contribute to development. The week-long program covered topics on the role of National Guidance in nation-building, Deepening ideological conscious and mindset change, Social-Economic Potential in Rwenzori Sub-region, effective and efficient communication on government progress, Role of Gender and the youths in socio-economic transformation, Uganda’s political History and National Symbols, their implications to National Identity and characters.
Walemba Daphine, the Chairperson Rwenzori Sub-Region Trainers, requested on behalf of trainees to organize more engagements and also consider the members in the security recruitments for Police and the army. The immediate former Chief of Defence Forces General Wilson Mbasu Mbadi said with no doubt believes that the participants with the discipline emulated can also do the Same if they decided to Join the forces, an indication of endorsement to their request.
Bakalikwira Jonah Jackson, Commissioner National Guidance MICT&NG, said such engagements had phased out until the reappointment of Godfrey Kabbyanga as Minister for National Guidance who has revived Muchaka Muchaka (Military basic models) in the community. He requested General Mbadi to support Kabbyanga to deliver the concept.
Minister for National Guidance Godfrey Kabbyanga urged the participants to form groups in order to be supported by the government through available wealth creation programs and grants.
To the UPDF, the engagement is observed as an opportunity that increases the number of Change agents who can support the sharing of intelligence in the district for enhanced security since roughly every village was represented. Lt. Leonard Masaba, The Political Commissar and instructor Mountain battalion, said the trainees managed to grasp 60% of what takes other members one year to accomplish, they were taken through fitness drills and ideological concepts. He reported that the members emulated a high level of discipline during the engagement and thanked the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance for initiating Such Trainings. He emphasized that the trainees are change agents and security partners who should share knowledge with others to focus on having a peaceful Uganda.
Minister of State for Trade General Wilson Mbasu Mbadi urged the trainees to embrace opportunities designed to enhance their participation in the promotion of socio-economic transformation with a clear Mindset. He, however, advised the Ministry to consider organizing a result-oriented engagement where members are informed on what they are supposed to do to usher them into socio-economic transformation. It is incumbent on you to put to use what you have learned from this engagement, he emphasized, while reminding them to embrace New ideas, opportunities and remain versatile.
