KAMPALA, UGANDA – In response to the recent travel advisory issued by the United States government, Uganda’s Minister of ICT and Government spokesperson, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, stoutly defended the safety of the country during a press conference held earlier today.

The advisory, which came as a surprise to the Ugandan government, cautioned US citizens and Ugandans alike about potential security risks in the country. This announcement follows the tragic incident in Queen Elizabeth National Park, where two British tourists were reportedly killed by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), sparking widespread concern about safety for visitors.

However, the Ugandan government, adamant about the safety of the nation, maintains its position that Uganda is indeed a safe country to live in and visit. Dr. Baryomunsi, in his statement, emphasized that the government has thoroughly examined the travel advisories and cross-referenced them with internal intelligence and anti-terrorism efforts. So far, no concrete threats to the level implied in the advisories have been found by the Government of Uganda (GOU).

Despite this reassurance, the government, committed to the security of its citizens and visitors, vows to maintain heightened security measures across major urban centers, highways, tourist hotspots, places of worship, nightclubs, shopping centers, markets, and other crowded areas. Vigilance and close security surveillance will remain a top priority.

In light of the advisories, both the US Embassy and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office have urged their citizens to avoid large gatherings, including places of worship, hotels, malls, and music and cultural festivals, particularly in Kampala.

Dr. Baryomunsi, on behalf of the Government of Uganda, urged both Ugandan residents and visitors to remain calm and continue with their daily activities without fear. He assured the public that the government has the situation under control and will continue to prioritize the safety and security of all individuals within its borders.

As tensions rise and concerns mount, the Ugandan government remains resolute in its stance, rebuffing the travel advisory issued by the United States. The situation calls for a careful balance between maintaining security measures and preserving the image of Uganda as a safe and welcoming destination for tourists and locals alike.

Uganda stands firm in its determination to overcome this difficult period and restore confidence among its citizens and global visitors, assuring them that it will leave no stone unturned in its pursuit of a secure and peaceful nation.
