” President Museveni has rejected a proposal by a few NRM MPs to have him as a presidential candidate in 2026, ” Said Kabanda on Sunday evening

The 10- day Kyankwanzi retreat ended this Sunday afternoon.

During the closing session, a group of MPs wearing t- shirts promoting Museveni’ s 2026 electoral candidacy walked to the president’ s podium. Museveni did not accept the proposal to run in 2026.

Instead, Museveni urged the party’ s Parliamentary Caucus to religiously supervise and oversee governments programs of Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga tailored at shifting society from the traditional way of life to modernity.

Kabanda had earlier said that a group of 30 self seekers (MPs) were ” converging at Kyankwanzi to endorse President Museveni tomorrow as a sole candidate for the 2026 elections. “

” We know some of them are targeting ministerial positions while the others want to retain their ministerial positions, ” Kabanda added

ChimpReports understands that State Minister for Sports, Hon Peter Ogwang was among those who planned to endorse Museveni as the sole party candidate in the 2026 polls.

The development comes at a time when Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’ s supporters are stepping up countrywide mobilisation to popularise their candidate ahead of the 2026 elections. President Museveni recently commented on Gen Muhoozi’ s anticipated bid, saying he would engage with the General’ s supporters.

Museveni also hailed Muhoozi for fighting corruption in the army but cautioned that some of the supporters of the former land Forces commander had selfish interests. Sources say some of the top shots in NRM want Museveni to stay in power, fearing they could be removed from office when Muhoozi takes power.
