Two Dead After Truck driver hits pothole, collides with trailer
Two persons died instantly, according to the police, in a car accident on the Jinja-Kampala highway on Sunday afternoon.
Two vehicles were involved in the collision in Nakibizi hamlet in Njeru Town Council, Buikwe District, together with a trailer with registration number UBH 795T/UAY 361M and a Fuso truck with registration number UAP 937U.
The Fuso vehicle was being driven from Jinja to Kampala, according to SP Hellen Butoto, a spokesperson for the Ssezibwa Regional Police.
According to the traffic police chief, potholes and unruly drivers are causing more traffic in Kampala.
Two people were killed in a head-on accident between a motor vehicle UBH 795T/UAY 361M trailer travelling from Kampala to Jinja on Sunday, according to SP Butoto. “Upon reaching Nakibizi village, the driver of Fuso hit a pothole lost control thus causing head-on collision with motor vehicle UBH 795T/UAY 361M,” he said.
She claimed that as investigations continued, the driver of the Fuso and the passenger—now the deceased, whose identity has not yet been established—were transported to the mortuary of Jinja regional referral hospital for a postmortem.
She claimed that the police were given the motor vehicles to inspect as part of the vehicle inspection.
According to the Annual Crime Report 2022, there were 20,394 road accidents reported in the nation in 2022 as opposed to 17,443 the year before. According to the police, irresponsible driving caused 61 percent of all accidents and resulted in 22 fatalities out of every 100 collisions.
