Traffic Police Unveils Guidelines Ahead Of Martyrs Day Celebrations
The traffic police have released a road map for pilgrims and road users alike ahead of Martyrs Day celebrations scheduled for June 03, 2023.
SSP Rogers Nsereko Kauma, the Kampala Metropolitan Traffic Police Commander says Jinja, Kampala Highway will have a normal traffic flow while Kireka-Kyaliwajjala road will have one way route to Namugongo Martyrs shrine. No vehicles will be allowed from Kyaliwajjala to Namugongo Catholic shrines, except for VIPs and emergency vehicles.
Meanwhile, Kyaliwajjala-Naalya interchange will be reserved for vehicles returning from Namugongo.
Kyaliwajjala trading center to the Basillica Catholic Church will be a pedestrian route. Nsereko says Pedestrians will keep right while the left is preserved for VVIP and emergency vehicles.
He adds that Very Important Persons (VIPs) going to Namugongo Basilica will have red stickers and will access the venue through Kyaliwajjala-Semambo Road. VIPs heading to the Protestant shrines will use the Bweyogerere-Butto-Kyobe Road and park at the church farm.
Nsereko says all directives take effect from midnight on June 2.
Kauma says the same applies to all cleared service providers to ensure they are inside the two venues before midnight on June 2. Those who fail to comply will not be allowed to bring their vehicles inside.
